About the Role

Chess.com is hiring a Senior Product Manager, Growth to help shape the core product experience and increase player engagement and retention.

The ideal candidate has extensive consumer product management experience, strong technical understanding, excellent communication skills, and a deep familiarity with chess and Chess.com products.

Key Responsibilities

• Shape the product roadmap and long-term vision for the core Chess.com experience.

• Identify opportunities to improve engagement, retention, and the overall player experience.

• Develop product ideas and work closely with leadership, product teams, design, and engineering to refine them.

• Partner closely with engineering from product discovery through delivery.

• Write clear product specifications and communicate priorities, requirements, and tradeoffs.

• Own key engagement metrics and use data to guide product decisions.

• Design and run experiments to test product ideas and improve user outcomes.

• Use AI tools to prototype concepts, test user flows, and accelerate product development.

• Develop product mechanics that encourage players to return, progress, and engage regularly.

• Communicate effectively across a distributed, global team using written and asynchronous communication.

Requirements

• 4+ years of product management experience.

• Strong experience building and shipping consumer-facing products.

• Experience working on products used by large user populations.

• Strong understanding of product engagement and retention.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong product judgment and the ability to identify valuable product opportunities.

• Deep familiarity with chess and Chess.com products.

• Ability to understand the different needs of beginners, club players, and titled players.

• Experience working closely with engineering teams throughout product development.

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years of product management experience.

• Strong consumer product management background.

• Technical fluency and the ability to discuss systems, data, metrics, and engineering tradeoffs.

• Experience using AI tools for product prototyping, research, experimentation, and execution.

• Strong analytical and data-driven product decision-making skills.
